Global Village Team January 2010Sending out a special Thanks to the latest Global Village team to come to Kaua`i and work with us. While the GV team was here they worked in the ReStore, assisted in organizing the base yard, raised the trusses and put up shingles for the carport on Lot 14, installed Bamboo flooring, built cabinets, built trusses for the carport on lot 16 and spent many hours priming. Lot of great work was done. We had a lot of fun. Also a HUGE Thanks to the people of Kaua`i, who made their trip so exceptional, including Kristen Kimball at Bright sky photography, The Smith Family Luau, SeaSport Dive shop, Nukumoi Surf Shop, and Kamokila Hawaiian village Kayak tours, Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo and the Kaua`i Chapter of the AAUW.
Here's what one volunteer had to say about his time working with the Global Village group: "Volunteering for Kauai's Habitat for Humanity was a life changing experience. Every staff member, as well as local volunteers made me feel welcomed and part of their family. They also made my trip full of memories that I will take with me for the rest of my life. During my time volunteering, not only did I help build a home with the actual homeowner, I participated in many cultural activities such as a luau and a hula dance lesson on the beach. I was also fortunate enough to go whale watching, surf, cliff jump, and hike trails in the na pali coast. The friendships that I made with other volunteers, staff, and locals will be a bond I take with me forever. Overall, the experience I had in Kauai was unbelievable. I had such an amazing time that I am already planning a trip back to continue volunteering! I strongly encourage anyone to participate in this life changing experience. The friendships I made with the homeowner whose house we were building, the staff at Habitat, and the volunteers is something that I will take with me for the rest of my life." ~ Ryan
